MONTREAL – After much-delay, the 75-ton super-beam has finally been installed on the Champlain Bridge.
The federal bridge authority and its engineers were held back eight hours after having to remove concrete jersey barriers to make space for the operation.
The bridge was completely closed to motorist on Saturday and while they were hoping to re-open it by 7 a.m, the delays forced them to wait till 5 p.m.

It’s down to one lane in each direction for the rest of the weekend and as of Monday there will only be two lanes heading to the south shore, and three coming to Montreal.
The beam is a temporary fix for a two millimetre crack that was discovered a few weeks ago.
