Canadian actor Kevin Zegers to star in ‘Broadchurch’ remake

TORONTO — Canadian actor Kevin Zegers has joined the cast of the U.S. remake of British series Broadchurch.

The Woodstock, Ont. native will play reporter Owen Burke in Gracepoint, an eight-part series that starts filming next month.

On Twitter, Zegers said he was “honored” to be part of the project.

In the UK version, which aired earlier this year on Showcase, the character was named Olly Stevens and played by Jonathan Bailey.

David Tennant will reprise his role as the detective investigating the murder of a young boy in a seaside town.

The cast includes Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Kevin Rankin (Breaking Bad) and Virginia Kull (The Following).

Zegers is familiar for his role on Gossip Girl and in the movies The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and Transamerica.
