New Westminster mayor says something needs to be done about Pattullo traffic

Video: New Westminster residents are seeing a sharp increase in traffic through their community. Drivers are taking a detour to avoid the new Port Mann after tolls doubled at the beginning of the year. Ted Chernekci reports.

New Westminster Mayor Wayne Wright is demanding a sit down meeting with the premier.

He says something has to be done about all of the traffic clogging the streets of New Westminster around the Pattullo Bridge.

Wright says congestion has shot up in the area by nearly 30 per cent, ever since the introductory toll for the Port Mann Bridge ended.

He says the Pattullo Bridge was already overloaded before people started trying to find ways around paying the toll, and he’s worried about wear-and-tear on the aging span.
