TORONTO – City council voted 37-4 Thursday night in favour of supporting a motion to extend Toronto bar hours for the remainder of the Sochi Olympic Games.

Most Toronto establishments will be allowed to open early as of 7 a.m. this Saturday and Sunday for the bronze and gold medal men’s hockey games.

The earlier hours only apply to bars and restaurants, not nightclubs. They don’t include locations in Ward 9, York Centre; Ward 24, Willowdale; and Ward 11, York South-Weston.

City council approved a similar motion in 2010 for the World Cup soccer games that were played in South Africa.

The men’s hockey bronze medal game is on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. ET and the gold at 7 a.m. ET on Feb. 23.
