Teen girl found guilty in stabbing death at Calgary house party

CALGARY – A teenage girl has been found guilty in a stabbing death at a Brentwood house party last year.

20-year-old Brett Wiese died after being stabbed in the back in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 12^th, 2013.

It happened after the party’s host ejected several uninvited guests — who later returned to the northwest home.

Police later charged a 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On Wednesday, a judge entered a crowded courtroom in downtown Calgary – handing down a verdict in the case.

The young girl was found not guilty of first-degree murder — but guilty of second-degree murder, as well as one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault.

Sentencing hearings are expected to start in the fall.

20-year-old Mitchell Harkes is also charged with murder in connection to Wiese’s death.

His trial is scheduled to begin in September.
