UPDATE: Escapee surrenders after police stand-off in Saskatoon

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – A prisoner with a history of violence has escaped from the Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford.

Mounties say Joseph Simon Peter Yaremko, 32, escaped Sunday evening from the forensic unit in hospital where he was being held in secure custody. He was possibly picked up by an accomplice in a vehicle outside the facility.

His mental state is considered unstable and police believe may be heading to Saskatoon or Prince Albert.

Yaremko is 5’10”, 210 pounds with tattoos on his neck. Yaremko was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black sweat pants.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Yaremko is asked to call their local police detachment.
