The Liberals won this seat in 2011, as Dipika Damerla defeated the Progressive Conservative candidate Zoran Churchin by over 4,000 votes. Previously, the seat was held by Liberal Peter Fonseca, and before that, Carl DeFaria of the Progressive Conservatives.

In the 2011 census, 16.3 per cent of people said they lived in a different country five years ago, the second highest figure in Ontario. Twenty-two per cent of households have one person, the highest number in the Peel Region.
