VANCOUVER – An 11-year-old boy died on Monday after a longboarding accident in Abbotsford on Saturday night.

Dustin Mackenzie was a Grade 5 student at Dormick Park Elementary.

On Saturday night he was out longboarding with his friends and his cousin when he fell and hit his head on the pavement. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Dustin was transported to BC Children’s Hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

The family has decided to donate his organs to help other children in need.

Funeral details have not yet been confirmed but a memorial page has been set up on Facebook for the young boy.

A makeshift memorial has also been set up at Bevan Avenue and Cascade Street in Abbotsford and family and friends have been leaving items and photos of the young victim.
