95-year-old Vancouver track and field star passes away

Vancouver-based athlete and fitness inspiration to people all over the world, Olga Kotelko, has died at the age of 95.

Kotelko died of a brain hemorrhage over the weekend.

She held 26 world records and earned hundreds of medals since taking up track and field at the age of 77, after retiring as a school teacher.

Kotelko was born in Vonda, Saskatchewan, northeast of Saskatoon and was the seventh child out of 11.

She credited her active lifestyle with growing up on a farm, where she was always moving.

Kotelko carried the Olympic torch as part of the relay for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren.
