5 people die in 2 unrelated crashes near Fort St. John on Thursday

VANCOUVER – Five people died in two separate and unrelated crashes in the Fort St. John area on Thursday.

A 29-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash on Clayhurst Road, approximately one-half kilometer from the Cecil Lake Road junction.

Just 50 minutes earlier, at about 2 p.m., four people died in a two-vehicle crash at Mile 83 on the Alaska Highway. Two pick-ups were involved with two people in each vehicle.

A 22-year-old woman and her male companion from Fort St. John both died in one vehicle.

The other vehicle was from Saskatchewan and a 71-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman both died at the scene.

At this time the cause of both accidents have not been determined, however police say they are not related.
