Watch above: Eric Szeto find out how Edmontonians are ringing in 2015.
EDMONTON — Born just two minutes after the stroke of midnight, Edmonton’s New Year’s baby is a girl.
Jared Adams and Kayla McEvoy welcomed their baby girl, Echo Adams, at 12:02 a.m. Thursday at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
McEvoy’s due date was Dec. 30, but it seemed baby Echo wasn’t quite ready to enter the world until New Year’s Day. She was eventually delivered in an emergency c-section.
“When she got rushed into the Emergency Room it was pretty much the scariest moment of my life,” Adams said of his wife.
“When the doctor came out to tell me that they were okay she also told me at the same time that she was the first baby here in the city.”
Named after a character in the FOX television series ‘Dollhouse,’ Echo weighed in at six pounds 15 ounces, and measured 19 3/4″ long.

“We hadn’t agreed on any girl names when I was watching it one day and suggested it,” said McEvoy. “He loved it as well (referring to her husband) so we were pretty much set.”
Echo has an older brother, Daniel, who is in Grade 5. The entire family couldn’t be happier with its new addition.
“We had a great last year so this just is a sign that we’re going to have another great year,” said McEvoy.
“It’s a great way to start the year off. I couldn’t think of a more positive way to begin the new year,” added Adams.
The first baby born at Edmonton’s Grey Nuns Hospital was a boy. He was born before 1:30 a.m. The first baby born at the Misericordia Hospital was a girl. She was also born before 1:30 a.m.
