Police confirm the identity of a man found dead in a Rosedale alley

CALGARY – Calgary police have confirmed the identity of the man found dead in a Rosedale alley.

Police found 23-year-old Murat Osman Omar’s body in an alley in the 1400 block of 8th Street N.W. just after 3 a.m. on Friday.

Community leaders released a photo of Omar on Saturday, saying the young man had moved to Calgary more than a decade ago.

A family spokesperson says over the last few years, Omar wasn’t seen at community events.

“They don’t have their own culture and they don’t have western culture, so something is going on with them. We need some help from the community of Canadian and the government,” Mudhir Mohammed said.

Police say the death is being treated as suspicious and is not believed to be a random incident.

An autopsy was conducted Monday, but so far there’s no official cause of death.
