REGINA – There will be no charges against an RCMP officer who shot and killed a man in Holdfast, Saskatchewan during an arrest.

The Crown has determined that the Mountie was acting reasonably during his attempt to take the man into custody for criminal harassment.

The decision is based on an investigation by the Regina Police Service into the shooting at a home in Holdfast in September 2013.

The RCMP had asked Regina police to review the shooting.

Police said at the time that the officer and a 42-year-old man had been fighting at a house when the man was shot.

An independent observer was appointed by the Justice Ministry to oversee the investigation.

“The matter has been concluded with a determination that the RCMP member was acting in the lawful execution of his duty and that his actions were based on reasonable grounds,” said a statement Thursday from the Regina police.
