The Winnipeg MP left his seat while the House was voting on a government motion. His explanation for his absence? His undies were too tight.
“I can blame it on a sale that was down at the Hudson’s Bay [Company] – they had men’s underwear on for half price. I bought a bunch that was clearly too small for me and I find it difficult to sit for any length of time, Mr. Speaker,” he said.

Martin apologized to the House saying he “did not mean to forfeit my right to vote.”
As for his vote?
Deputy speaker Joe Comartin said because Martin’s vote was still valid even after a brief absence.
