Terrace names park in honour of fallen RCMP officer Mike Buday

WATCH: Thirty years after he was gunned down by ‘The Mad Trapper,’ a special tribute is paid to RCMP Cst. Mike Buday. John Daly has the story.

The city of Terrace paid tribute to a RCMP officer who died in the line of duty 30 years ago.

A ceremony was held to name a park in honour of Cst. Mike Buday, who was fatally shot by the so-called “Mad Trapper” back in 1985.

“We can tell you we will forever be in Mike’s debt and are pleased to have Mike’s spirit live on in this park,” said Terrace Mayor Carol Leclerc. “He is remembered as a hero, a son, and a brother.”

Buday, a 27-year-old dog master with the Emergency Response Team, was shot in the back while on the shores of Teslin Lake searching for suspected murderer Michael Oros, a 33-year-old recluse known as “The Mad Trapper.” Oros was killed by Buday’s partner Garry Rodgers.
