TORONTO – The Special Investigations Unit says it is investigating the injuries of Suzan Zreik who was shot during a fatal shooting in Mississauga last week.

Global News reported Thursday that the SIU wasn’t investigating after a spokesperson said Zreik’s injuries didn’t fit their mandate and weren’t serious enough.

In a series of emails Friday the SIU admitted, what they called, its “mistake” and said they have in fact been investigating Zreik’s injuries the entire time.  They attributed the error to a “miscommunication in how information was shared internally.”

The SIU investigates whenever a person is injured during an interaction with a police officer in Ontario.

Zreik told Global News in an exclusive interview Thursday that she was hit by a bullet while cutting limes in her kitchen late on Friday night last week.
