WINNIPEG – Another Winnipeg city councillor is attempting to take his political career to the next level.
Jeff Browaty, who has represented North Kildonan on Winnipeg city council since 2006, announced Tuesday he will seek the Conservative nomination in the federal riding of Kildonan-St. Paul.
Joy Smith has been the Conservative MP for that riding since 2004 but announced earlier this year she will not be running for reelection.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue the federal Conservative nomination in Kildonan-St. Paul,” Browaty is quoted in a news release. “Over the coming days and weeks I look forward to meeting with existing party members and signing up new ones.”

Former councillor Dan Vandal is already nominated as the Liberal candidate in St. Boniface, where he will face Conservative MP and cabinet minister Shelly Glover in the next federal election set for October 19.
Former St. James councillor Scott Fielding is set to carry the Progressive Conservative flag in Kirkfield Park in the next provincial election, where he will attempt to unseat NDPer Sharon Blady, who is now health minister, and has held the seat since 2007.
