U of L students shave it off for cancer research

Ever since her last hair cut five years ago, Coco Sabourin has been craving not just a cut, but a shave.

“I’ve wanted to cut my hair really short to donate it for the last five years, so this was a great opportunity to both do that and raise money,” said Sabourin

Today at the 10th annual Kappa Sigma Fraternity Cancer Head Shave, the 19 year old University of Lethbridge student mustered up the courage to shave it all off, in support of cancer research. It’s something her mother Cindy would have had a hard time doing.

“I don’t think I’d be brave enough to do it. I just admire her so much.”

Coco’s hair will go to the Angel Wings Foundation which makes wigs for sick children. She’s also raised over $2,200 dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society.  It’s a cause close to her heart because she knows the effect the terrible disease can have.

“I’ve had a couple friends, who’s mom’s have had breast cancer,” said Sabourin. “So just seeing what they went through and all that just helped with the reasoning as to why I wanted to do this.”

Over 60 people got their head shaved at the event, with Kappa Sigma helping to raise over 15 thousand dollars.
