Alberta Liberal leader says it’s time to talk co-operation with other parties

CALGARY — Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann says he wants to talk co-operation with other “progressive” opposition parties right after the May 5 election.

Swann told reporters in Calgary that he has been trying to push some sort of agreement with the NDP and, more recently, the Alberta Party for the last four years.

But he says no one showed any interest until the last six or eight weeks.

Swann says opposition parties have to stop dividing the vote or risk keeping the Progressive Conservatives in power forever.

He acknowledges there is a lack of trust among parties which have been what he calls “fierce rivals” over the years.

Swann defended running candidates in 47 ridings because the party had already funded and made commitments to the constituencies.
