Jim Prentice’s campaign bus collides with SUV driven by security staff

WATCH ABOVE: Jim Prentice’s campaign bus was rear-ended by a member of his security detail Tuesday. No one was seriously injured.

CALGARY – The driver of an SUV who was part of the security detail suffered minor injuries after rear-ending Alberta Progressive Conservative leader Jim Prentice’s campaign bus Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1:45 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP officers were sent to a collision between the bus and an SUV on RR 6-4 and TWR 40-1A in Clearwater County near Rocky Mountain House, Alta.

Alberta RCMP Sgt. Josee Valiquette said there was no indication of an intoxicated driver, and police are investigating to determine what factors contributed to the collision.

“This is a…road where there’s a lot of gravel, so this may be a factor,” she said.

The SUV driver—and sole occupant—was transported to hospital by a co-worker with minor injuries. A spokesperson for Alberta Justice and Solicitor General said he was taken to Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre and has since been released.

PC leader Prentice and eight other people on the bus were uninjured.

About 20 minutes after a photo of the incident surfaced on Twitter, Prentice tweeted about a visit to a local farm with no mention of the collision:
