WINNIPEG – Police taped off the alley behind Winnipeg’s Siloam Mission and removed three Dumpsters covered with tarps Monday morning – but they won’t say why. The garbage bins were later unloaded at the City of Winnipeg street maintenance building at 1220 Pacific Ave.
Multiple police were at the downtown homeless shelter’s taped-off back-alley loading zone as the Dumpsters were loaded onto a flatbed truck shortly before 10 a.m. Police were also present as they were unloaded at Pacific Avenue.
A police spokeswoman said she couldn’t release any information about what police are investigating.

The investigation behind the shelter came after Winnipeg’s homeless population was warned to be cautious and avoid secluded areas following two homicides on the weekend. Police believe one killer is responsible for both slayings, and that person may be targeting homeless people.
