TORONTO – Visitors to Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano are getting quite a treat: a rare glimpse into a lava lake.

The lava lake, which started inflating on April 22 in Overlook crater, has risen to record heights according to the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The lava lake has been around since 2008, but it’s only recently become visible from the overlooks around the tourist area.

The USGS expects the overflows to continue intermittently.
