WATCH: Swedish man scares off charging bear with a roar

Swedish hunter Ralph Persson doesn’t believe in taking the passive approach when it comes to encounters with bears.

“To lie down and play dead? I do not believe in that,” he told a Swedish newspaper.

He proved just that on a recent expedition to train a new hunting dog.

As soon as he noticed that the beagle’s bark was indicating danger, Ralph saw a brown bear appear on the trail he and wife Lena were taking.

The bear charged at Ralph, but he didn’t back down.

Without skipping a beat, he flung his arms wide and released a ferocious roar. It was enough to send the bear right back into the forest.

Lena and Ralph caught the entire incident on camera and it has since gone viral.

Brown bears are common in Sweden and Ralph claims he has had many encounters with them. However he admits that he may have crossed the line.

“This time, I went over the limit,” he said. “You have to have respect for the animals.”
