TORONTO – Environment Canada has confirmed the first tornado of the Ontario storm season.
The tornado, an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, occurred between Thorndale and Bryanston, northeast of London. A series of storms developed as a cold front passed through southern Ontario on May 30 around 2:30 p.m.
The cold front was responsible for triggering thunderstorms across the region, some very intense. In London a severe storm with damaging wind gusts of 100 to 120 km/h due to a microburst damaged a roof and trees in London.

Each year about 12 tornadoes are confirmed in Ontario, though the number of unreported tornadoes — as a result of not being seen — is likely higher.
