LAKE COUNTRY — It’s not set to open until December, but construction of the new Lake Country food bank location is well on its way.

The new building is now almost fully constructed, with the roof set to go on next week.

It’s taken thousands of volunteer hours to get there. Students from Okanagan College offered up 6,000 hours of free labour to build the new facility from the ground up.

“I’m really pleased with the way things are going,” says Jim Taylor with the Rotary Club of Lake Country, which has spearheaded fundraising for the new facility.

While there have been vigorous fundraising efforts, the food bank still needs to raise another $100,000 to foot the bill.

“I’m concerned there may be a hold up if we don’t get enough donations to cover costs,” Taylor continues, “if the funding doesn’t come through we can’t open on time.”

But in the meantime, construction is still forging forward, with the hope the money is raised in time to keep that December opening.
