TCDSB trustees want to delay implementation of new sex-ed curriculum

Two Toronto Catholic District School Board trustees want the Ministry of Education to allow the board to delay implementation of the province’s new sex-ed curriculum.

Angela Kennedy and Garry Tanuan say in a news release that they will be introducing a motion at tonight’s board meeting asking fellow trustees to support the idea of a one-year delay.

Kennedy says substantial parts of the curriculum contradict Catholic teachings and they want the extra time to allow for parental input.

Some parent groups have protested the new curriculum — expected to be introduced at all Ontario schools in the fall — but the province contends updated information on healthy relationships, consent and cyber-bullying is long overdue.
