Alcohol believed to be factor in rollover that injured woman, child

Saskatchewan RCMP say alcohol may have been a factor in a rollover near Maidstone that sent a two-year-old child to hospital Friday. Saskatchewan RCMP / Supplied

MAIDSTONE, Sask. – RCMP say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a rollover east of Maidstone, Sask. Friday. Officers were called to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 16 at 6:45 p.m.

Investigators say the westbound sedan lost control on Highway 16 and entered the median which caused the vehicle to roll and hit an approach.

A woman from Humboldt, Sask. was driving the vehicle which had a two-year-old passenger.

The driver suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury. She was treated on scene by EMS and then airlifted by STARS air ambulance to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon where she is reported to be in stable condition.

The child was taken by paramedics to Battlefords Union Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP received a complaint, prior to the rollover, about a similar vehicle driving in an erratic manner. This investigation is ongoing.

No charges have been laid at this time.
