Two small fires burning near Lions Bay and Stave Lake

Hot and dry conditions are continuing to fuel wildfires in B.C.

There are two small forest fires that crews in the Lower Mainland are battling.

In the District of Mission, a small fire is burning near Davis Lake, just east of Stave Lake. According to Marg Drysdale of Coastal Fire, it is only .1 hectares in size, but on a steep slope. A water tanker and helicopter are on scene.

Davis says the fire was human-caused and is under investigation.

Another fire is also burning just south of Lions Bay.

Andrew Oliver of Lions Bay Fire Rescue says it broke out this morning between the CN Rail line and the ocean. While it was a Stage 2 fire earlier this afternoon, it is now contained.

The fires come as crews in the Elaho Valley, north of Squamish, continue to fight a blaze that is now 650 hectares in size.
