Surrey RCMP say at least eight drug overdoses took place in the city in the last 24 hours.
Investigators say the victims were apparently ingesting heroin and immediately showed signs of overdose.
In at least three instances, “extreme life-saving measures” had to take place.

All victims were taken to hospitals and are recovering.
It is not clear what the nature of the drug is, so police are not able to confirm what has caused the overdoses, but investigators say the users were purchasing what they thought was heroin.
Surrey RCMP are expected to release more information today.
