REGINA – The Canadian Armed Forces has sent a heartfelt “Thank-You” to the province of Saskatchewan for supporting soldiers while they helped battle the recent northern wildfires.
Colonel Geoff Abthorpe, Commander of 38 Canadian Brigrade Group, wrote a letter saying his men were deployed from Edmonton on July 4th to help out with the wildfires and within hours, 73 reservists from Saskatchewan had volunteered to head up north and help with the massive effort.

The Colonel also shared a story about a young reservist who remembered watching the army help fight raging wildfires in his hometown of Kelowna in 2003. He decided then to be a reservist one day to help pay back the support, and he was pretty proud to be getting on the bus to come to Saskatchewan to help.
The Colonel finished his letter by saying his unit’s deployment is now part of history in the province, since the last time the army the army was called to help in Saskatchewan was over 42 years ago when Regina was hit hard by flooding in 1973.
