Transgender flag flies at Calgary city hall

The transgender flag was raised at city hall Saturday morning, the trans community said it’s the first time the flag has been raised at a municipal building in Alberta.

The blue, pink and white will fly at city hall as part of Calgary Pride week, and will be raised from sunrise to sunset Saturday.

Aria Ehren with the Trans Equality Society of Alberta said she hoped it will mean that transgender rights will be prioritized.

“Transgender rights are not being focused on at the forefront of LGBT rights,” Ehren told Global News. “ It’s about time they become more of a focus for our movement.”

In addition to the flag raising, the dyke and transgender march is planned for Saturday ahead of Calgary’s pride parade Sunday.
