TORONTO — In an attempt to win votes a City Hall, Uber has unleashed an email blast asking its customers reach out to city councillors and find out where they stand on keeping UberX in Toronto.
“At City Hall, Councillors (Jim) Karygiannis and (Giorgio) Mammoliti teamed up to tell Uber users to ‘get out’ of their neighbourhood,” the email says.

Earlier this week, Municipal Licensing and Standards voted against recommendations that would see the ride-sharing company operating legally in Toronto.
Councillors Karygiannis and Mammoliti are vocal proponents for the taxi industry and have opposed UberX’s presence in Toronto.

Uber released the following statement shortly after the decision was made, saying “With their relentless bullying of UberX drivers today, Councillor Mammoliti and Karygiannis are clearly out of touch with the vast majority of Torontonians who want smart regulations permanently welcoming ridesharing in this city.”
The ground transportation report will come to City Council on Sept. 30.
