LAVAL – Teachers of Quebec’s third-largest English school board are gathering to decide whether to hold a six-day rolling strike.
The Sir Wilfred Laurier School Board represents 42 schools in the three municipalities on the island of Laval.

According to union president Sebastien Joly, about $1 billion in cuts by the provincial government has made teaching untenable.

“We have seen the effects of the cutbacks already,” he said.
“It’s almost impossible as it is.”
The union is especially concerned about cuts to special education and adult education, both of which rely heavily on support staff.
The unions have until Tuesday to vote whether or not to strike.
