Remembering children who died in residential schools

REGINA – A march was held Saturday afternoon in memory of victims of residential school assaults.

The walk took participants from the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Pinkie Road to an unmarked cemetery site.

The cemetery is part of the remains of the Regina Indian Industrial School that operated from 1891 to 1910.

Those in attendance for the march mourned their loss.

“We know the history now, we know what took place here. This land should be honoured and given back to the people,” said Jodie Payant, a participant in the walk.

It’s estimated there are about 40 graves of students who passed away while attending the residential school.
