WINNIPEG — A big game by big Dave has earned the Manitoba Bisons’ defensive lineman a player of the week nod.
“It’s pretty cool being recognized that way,” David Onyemata said.
The fourth year Bison has been named the Canada West Defensive Player of the Week after racking up 1.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles in the Herd’s 29-7 win over the Alberta Golden Bears at Investors Group Field on Friday. Onyemata also forced and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter of the game.

“I haven’t been performing as much as I wanted,” Onyemata said. During the beginning of the season, I had aches and pains. I’m feeling healthier now. Right now I’m in the best shape possible. I went into the game with the mindset of do everything I could to help my team win.”
Onyemata’s honour marks the fifth time this season a member of the Bisons football team has earned a conference player of the week award.
The nation’s eighth ranked Bisons (5-2) wrap up the regular season this Saturday with a visit to #9 UBC Thunderbirds. The winner will host a Canada West semifinal the following weekend.
