Multiple pedestrians hit as police urge caution on wet Metro Van roads

The storm battering B.C.’s coast has forced the cancellation of several ferry routes, and multiple pedestrians have been hit by vehicles.

Ferries travelling between Texada Island and Powell River were cancelled at 6:50 and 7:40 p.m. tonight, and the route between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands have also been cancelled tonight.

In addition, both 7 p.m. sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay were delayed for over an hour due to the extreme weather.

On the roads, one person is in critical condition in Langley after being hit by a truck at 232nd Street and 72 Avenue shortly before 5:30 p.m.

Cpl. Holly Largy says the 29-year-old man was walking his dog when the accident happened. The truck driver remained on scene and is assisting police.

In Vancouver, a pedestrian in a crosswalk was hit by a vehicle at Hastings and Renfrew Street. The victim was transported to Vancouver General Hospital, but his condition is unknown.

There have also been pedestrians hit in Abbotsford and Surrey, and several roads throughout Metro Vancouver have been closed because of flooding.

While BC Hydro is bracing for the possibility of widespread outages, Horseshoe Bay and Saturna Island are the only large areas without power at the moment.
