SASKATOON – When you begin the season ranked second in the nation, expectations are high. So far the Saskatchewan Huskies women’s basketball team is living up to those expectations, sporting a perfect 4-0 record through the first two weeks of the campaign.
“We’re a very veteran team and I think we learn from past experiences,” said fifth-year shooting guard Laura Dally. “It’s come together good so far.”
A 4-0 start is nothing to complain about, but while the Huskies are pleased with the early results they believe there’s still room for improvement.
“We really should be in a position where we’re just picking up where we left off last season and I think in some games we’ve shown that and in others we’ve shown that we still have lots of work to do,” said head coach Lisa Thomaidis.

The Huskies offence is humming, scoring an average of 86 points per game. However at the other end of the floor the team would like to see a bit more consistency on defence.
“There’s always things we can improve on. I think our help defence is sometimes there, sometimes isn’t, so I think if we can just keep working on that and always talking about it on the floor and off the floor it will just keep getting better,” said fifth-year forward Dalyce Emmerson.

To that end the team is spending more time on defensive drills in practice as it prepares to face the UBC Thunderbirds at the PAC this weekend.
“They’re going to be long, they’re going to be athletic, so we’re going to have to be ready for them and make it a low-scoring game, at least on their side,” Thomaidis said.
The Huskies take on the Thunderbirds Friday and Saturday, with tip-off set for 6:15 p.m. CT. The men play both nights at 8 p.m.
