Nenshi to make good on bet with Iveson following Stampeders loss Sunday

EDMONTON — Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi will be dressed in Eskimos green and gold at a council meeting later this week as he makes good on a bet with his Edmonton counterpart.

“The jersey’s on its way to mayor Nenshi,” Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson said Monday.

“He will be wearing the jersey to a council meeting on Wednesday and we look forward to that,” he added with an evil laugh.

Nenshi and Iveson placed a friendly wager on Sunday’s CFL West Division final last week. The mayor of the losing team would be forced to wear the jersey of the opposing team to a city council meeting.

After the Eskimos came out victorious Sunday with a 45-31 win over the Stampeders, it’s Nenshi who came out on the losing end. But, it’s not all bad for Calgary. As part of the bet, the winning mayor offered to make a donation to the food bank.

Following Sunday’s win, the Eskimos will now face the Ottawa Redblacks in the 103rd Grey Cup this Sunday in Winnipeg. This is Edmonton’s first appearance in the Grey Cup since 2005.
