Accused Milk River animal abuser still waiting for psychiatric assessment

LETHBRIDGE — April Irving has still not entered a plea in what could be one of the largest cases of animal cruelty in Canadian history.

During her last court appearance in November, her lawyer made an application to the court for a psychiatric assessment.

Her lawyer told the courts Friday the assessment has not happened yet because Irving broke her leg and has not been able to complete the assessment, but plans to before her next court appearance Jan. 21.

Irving will undergo an assessment at the Alberta Psychiatry Centre where her mental well-being at the time of the alleged incidents will be under review to determine if she can be held criminally responsible for her actions.
