TORONTO – A Conservative backbench MP is retracting comments he made about the Harper government’s omnibus budget bill in a frank discussion with his constituents.

In a YouTube video posted on Tuesday, David Wilks of Kootenay-Columbia is peppered with questions from constituents about why the 425-page bill has to include so many measures.

Wilks admits that he and other backbenchers have concerns about the size and scope of the bill, but that he doesn’t have a choice but to support the government because the vote is whipped, meaning all members are told to vote with their party.
