WINNIPEG – An early Saturday morning assault on the 500 block Stella Ave. has now turned fatal.
Winnipeg police confirm 39 year-old Mavis Ducharme was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say this is the city’s second homicide of 2016.
There has been a police presence since officers were called at 5 a.m. on Saturday. Crime scene tape has continued to block the front of the house as well as sections of an adjacent back lane.
An autopsy has been ordered and police said interviews are ongoing.
