Witness accused of stabbing driver

VERNON, B.C. – The driver of a vehicle that struck a Vernon pedestrian has been charged with assault with a weapon.

So too has a witness to the incident who allegedly stabbed the driver.

It happened Wednesday afternoon when the vehicle left 27th Avenue, hitting a 23-year-old woman who was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police say a man who witnessed the incident is alleged to have smashed the driver’s side window and stabbed the 18-year-old motorist.

He and a passenger then fled the scene on foot.

Abd’l-Malik Loubissi-Morris was later located and charged with assault with a weapon because of the way he was allegedly driving when the pedestrian was struck.

His accused assailant, 29-year-old Thomas Richie, is charged with the same offense.

Loubissi-Morris was also treated at hospital.

Police say they’re still actively investigating and are asking people with information to come forward.
