UPDATE: After Global News covered the story, Best Buy said it will make the proper changes to allow TurboTax to be available in English in Quebec.
MONTREAL – With the Apr. 30 income tax tax filing deadline approaching, many Canadians are getting ready to submit their 2015 tax returns online.
But if you hope to order the English version of Turbo Tax from Best Buy and have it shipped to Quebec, you’re out of luck.
The electronics retail giant has a disclaimer reading “this item does not meet Quebec shipping restrictions.”

The English version is available in Best Buy stores; however, competitors like Bureau en Gros and Amazon.ca are selling and shipping the English TurboTax to addresses in Quebec.
Lawyer and English rights activist Harold Staviss said Best Buy may be misinterpreting the French-language charter.

Section 52.1 of the charter stipulates that “software can also be available in languages other than French, provided that the French version can be obtained.”
Late Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Best Buy emailed Global News, stating ”we are actively working to resolve this issue and expect to have a resolution very soon.”
