WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Jets rookie forward Nikolaj Ehlers is out indefinitely after taking a puck in the face in last night’s loss to the New York Islanders.

“He has some blood in the chamber, in the eye chamber,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. “We don’t know the extent of it. We’ll know that in the next 24 hours after he sees specialists and he’s tested. What we’ll learn from that is the amount and then have a timeline on when we think it will dissipate.”
The puck broke Ehlers’ visor and left him bloodied.
“It wasn’t a cut on his eye. The cuts were around his eye,” Maurice said. “There’s just from the impact of it all, there’s some blood in there.”
The injury could have been a whole lot worse if Ehlers wasn’t wearing a visor and he won’t be able to anything physical until he gets clearance from doctors.

“He will be one hundred per cent shutdown until it’s dissipated,” said Maurice. “We have no expectation of anything long term right now. But the longer we think it takes to dissipate, that’s going to extend that injury out cause he won’t get on a bike or go for a brisk walk until it’s completely gone.”
The Jets have also lost the services of forward Anthony Peluso who will miss the next three to four weeks with an upper body injury.
“Best case scenario with Anthony is we’re looking at probably three to four weeks,” Maurice said. “So that would be good news because he would be able to rehab to the point at the end of three weeks to be a player for us.”
With the Jets already short on forwards they’ve called up JC Lipon from the Manitoba Moose.
