WATCH ABOVE: Halifax Regional Police are working to piece together what happened early this morning in a Dartmouth neighbourhood that left a young man dead. Global's Natasha Pace reports – Mar 29, 2016

Halifax Regional Police are investigating a suspicious death on Mount Edward Drive in Dartmouth Tuesday morning.

Police confirm they were called to the scene shortly before 5:30 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired.

When they arrived the found the body of a young man who had been shot at the intersection of Mount Edward and Spring Avenue.

The medical examiner is on site and will ultimately determine whether the death is a homicide.

A witness told Global Halifax she heard two shots early this morning, however police still aren’t giving many details.

Police say the identity of the man is still unknown.

Forensics investigators are now on the scene along with police.

No one is in custody and investigators have not said whether they are actively looking for a suspect. The intersection and some surrounding streets remain closed as investigators continue their work.
