MONTREAL – A 24-year-old man is in police custody after an alleged attempted kidnapping in Jeanne-Mance Park Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened at 2 p.m. when the suspect entered the park via Esplanade Avenue and grabbed a 7-year-old girl who was at the park with her family.
A family member intervened and held on to the suspect who only managed to run a few metres.

Bystanders, including former Montreal Canadiens Georges Laraque, quickly jumped in to assist and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived.
The man was taken into police custody and met with investigators overnight.
The suspect remains in custody and while he has no criminal file, police said he would likely undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The suspect is expected to appear in court early this week where he could face possible kidnapping charges.
