A parking lot sitting at Smithe and Richards in Downtown Vancouver is getting a little makeover.

The Vancouver Park Board approved the final design plan for a new park in the area Monday night.

The 0.8-acre park will be the first in the downtown core since Emery Barnes Park opened 13 years ago.

The city hopes the park will become a small green oasis for the city dwellers in the area.

It is just a short walk from Granville and Robson Streets, the Vancouver Public Library, Yaletown area and BC Place stadium.

The park design will incorporate three terrace levels, a large public plaza with a water fountain, playground, community harvest table and overhead walkway.

It’s expected the park will be completed by 2018.
