Mayor of Peachland wants to look at aggressive dogs

PEACHLAND — The Peachland mayor says she’s ready to look at what other communities are doing about pitbulls and other aggressive dog breeds after her pet was attacked.

She says it happened about two weeks ago when she was walking her dog in Peachland.

Fortin says the pitbull managed to open a gate and attack her husky.

The dog suffered deep puncture wounds to its face and head before Fortin managed to control the pitbull.

Fortin says the incident has her wondering if it’s time Peachland looked at some sort of ban on aggressive breeds.

“I hate to discriminate against pitbulls but I’m certainly going to look at what’s happening across Canada,” says Fortin.

She says one idea might be to ban pitbulls and other known aggressive breeds from dog parks.

“It’s something that local communities are doing and I would like to find out why.”

Fortin says the owner of the pitbull was ticketed by dog control authorities.
