Senator Patrick Brazeau pleads not guilty to charge of impaired driving

GATINEAU, Que. – Senator Patrick Brazeau has pleaded not guilty to a charge of impaired driving.

Brazeau was not in court Tuesday morning, in the western Quebec community of Gatineau.

The alleged crime took place on April 3 in Mayo, Que.

Last year, Brazeau pleaded guilty to reduced charges of assault and possession of cocaine after a more serious charge of sexual assault was dropped because the Crown said it did not have sufficient evidence.

He received an unconditional discharge.

Brazeau, 41, is also facing charges of of fraud and breach of trust in connection with his Senate expense claims.

He pleaded not guilty to those charges, but has not been tried.

The case has been put over until Oct. 26.
