TORONTO – Deanna Parlee, Fawell’s aunt and legal guardian, was a woman he called ‘mom.’ Parlee spoke at Toronto Police Headquarters on Wednesday morning and begged those responsible for her nephew’s murder to turn themselves in to police.
“George was a human being, no one deserves to be dumped like garbage,” Parlee said.
Twenty-four-year old Fawell was found dead on August 24 in Jimmie Simpson Park, a small park in Toronto, east of Broadview Avenue between Queen Street and Dundas Street.
Salvation Army workers stumbled upon his body after bringing food and water to homeless people who frequent the park.

Fawell grew up and lived in the east-end neighbourhood, and Toronto Police Sgt. Gary Giroux believes those responsible for the murder may still be in the community – though said the attack was an isolated incident, motivated by personal conflict.
Giroux said Fawell died of stab wounds to the chest, and “chopping wounds” to the neck and head.
“One of the worst sharp force injuries I have seen in my experience,” Giroux said. “It was so egregious that I believe Mr. Fawell passed away and the attack on his body continued.”
Giroux said that the variety of wounds has lead investigators to believe that there were two offenders, and two weapons being used.
He also warned possible witnesses of the homicide to come forward before they are charged in relation to the crime.
“If you were present for something that you had no idea that was going to take place… you are the type of people that need to come forward,” Sgt. Giroux said. “Any delay… will suggest to me that you’re involved.”
Fawell was Toronto’s 34th homicide victim this year.
